A brief overview of the progress of CMM Group Water Scheme since its inception in 2002

  • Feb 2002 – The idea of a Group Water Scheme for the area was first mooted by the late Robert Fausset at an IFA meeting in Mountnugent
  • March 2002 – 1st formal meeting, where it was agreed to canvass houses in the area & collect €100 each to fund a feasibility study for constructing a new scheme.
  • June 2002 – Jennings O’Donovan, Sligo, Consultant Engineers, were appointed to carry out the feasibility study.
  • July 2003 – Cavan County Council gave approval for the scheme to go to design stage. 85% funding would be available for construction of the scheme.
  • Nov 2003 – The tender notice for Stage 1 of the scheme was placed in the local press.
  • Oct 2004 – The Contract for Stage 1 was signed with P.Clarke & Sons, Lisnaskea, for €1,838,998.24.
  • Nov 2004 – The construction work began at Liffey Meats by sub-contractors, Campbell Contracts.
  • Feb 2005 – CMM employed a part time Secretary/Administrator, Winifred Acheson.
  • March ‘05 – Some Committee members took part in their 1st St Patricks Days parade to give publicity to scheme.
  • June ’05 – Contract for Stage 2 goes to tender.
  • Nov ’05 – Contract for Stage 2 signed with McFadden & Sons for €3,719,960.00, with an immediate start.
  • June 2006 – Construction of the two Reservoirs and a Pumping Station began.
  • JULY 2007 MAIN SCHEME COMPLETED
  • Dec 2007 – First AGM was held.
  • June 2009 – CMM employed a part-time Caretaker, Phil Smith.
  • March 2010 – A small extension to serve four houses was completed at Tonagh, Mountnugent. Contractor Jason O’Reilly, Loughduff, Co Cavan
  • January 2011 – Completed another small extention at Maghera, at a cost of €67,501.17. Contractor S. Wilkin & Sons, Rockcorry.
  • May 2012 – New a/c’s package and Billing System, H20CIS, was purchased from Ultan Technologies.
  • June 2012 – CMM employed a part-time Manager, Douglas Ritchie.
  • Jul 2012 - Implementation of Safety and Quality Control Policies.
  • Aug 2012 - Implementation of a Debt collection programme.
  • Sept 2012 - Upgrading and calibration of bulk flow meters
  • Oct 2012 - Servicing and routine maintenace of booster pumps.
  • Dec 2012 - Water conservation and active leak detection programme started.
  • March 2013 - Provision of rented office open to the public in Ballyjamesduff 2 days a week.
  • April 2013 - Collection of GPS data for consumer meters and inputting into billing software.
  • June 2013 - Ongoing summer maintenance programmes on the distribution network, including the replacement of damaged marker posts and consumer meters.
  • Aug 2013 - Staff training in relation to water quality and water sampling.
  • Sept 2013 - Staff training in relation to Safety and working on roads.
  • Oct 2013 - Staff training in relation to secondary water chlorination.
  • Dec 2013 - Application for Deparment Grant in relation to water consevation.
